adxba are responsible for the management and maintenance of Digital Advertising Displays (known as "eyelites") in several locations in the UK, such as Manchester Airport, Belfast Airport, Nottingham East Midlands Airport and many others. Each Digital Advertising Display is in a fixed location and contrains either a 46” or 65” NEC LCD display. The displays are in a portrait format and in an custom enclosure to separate them away from what people associate “TVs” with nowadays.
The enclosures are fixed to the ground using chemical fixings, this prevents the eyelite being moved, and also protects it from the possibility of falling over. Each eyelite has a lock to prevent any unauthorised access within the enclosure.
Each eyelite contains a Dell Optiplex Computer, Running Windows XP and adxba's Digital Signage platform Xces with 3G connectivity which allows the screen to connect to the content server over the internet. This allows for the screen to be managed remotely and recieve virtually instantanious content updates as well as receive future campaigns.
adxba support visits each site on a regular basis to maintain equipment, solve any outstanding issues and also to make sure the display is clean and free of dust, adxba also monitor the displays remotely to ensure that the systems remain online, otherwise troubleshoot the problem. adxba also keeps a stock of spare hardware for replacement on the failure of hardware. This mixture of on site and remote support ensures that each site keeps up and running whilst the terminal is open. Each site shuts down each night to save power and extend equipment life, this is done using a mixture of software and hardware to ensure machines are shut down safely, saving the hardware from any failures.
The screen is held in the enclosure by 2 screwed in bars, one at the top of the enclosure and one at the bottom ,this holds the screen tight, but also allows the screen to removed and replaced easily if it is needed, the pc is stored in the bottom of the enclosure, along with the 3G router in an area with flowing air, through a system of internal and external facing fans to prevent over heating. To ensure the screen is not damaged, the door contains a clear perspex sheet, which can be replaced inexpensively and easily. Each eyelite also contains an external 3G aerial to ensure signal coverage.
adxba has also been responsible for several "eyelite roadshows" in the UK, which involved several eyelites being transported around the UK to different locations to show clients what an eyelite actually is, and how to do content for them.
adxba's software team are responsible for all content for the eyelites (99% in Adobe Flash) when a client does not provide thier own as well as specialised campaigns, such as countdowns, and twitter based location content.
