< back to Portfolios

Equipment Installed:

8 x Orion PDP MIS-4210 (42" Seemless Plasma Display) 2 x 4 way DVI Splitters (with panel link technology),
Dell Optiplex GX745 WRT54G3G 3G Router
Vodafone 3G card custom wall bracket and frame

The Orion PDP 42" plasma display is designed to be infinately expandable to any number of screens you wish you use. With only a 2mm bezel, multiple screen configurations look professional, sleek and different from other brands of plasma display. Because of this we have used 8 Orions to create 2 Rows of 4 Screens to create a large widescreen format display.

Due to the sheer side of the display, custom bracketry was designed and manufactured to allow the screens to be removed easily for maintenance. Screens are fitted into the frame individually, then using existing screw holes on the screen fixed to the frame, "lugs" are then used between the screens to line them up perfectly to make sure any image is lined up on the display. A bezel is then fixed over the bracketry to maintain a professional look. DVI cables were ran through the bracketry and into the roof, where the PC was located, fixed to an overhead cable tray.

The display can be turned off by an engineer by using a maintenance key to perform general maintenance, this also allows basic problems to be solved without tools or ladders.

The display is powered by a Dell optiplex GX745 PC, running adxba's Digital Signage application Xces, with a Dual output Nvidia graphics card, which is then split to a "left" and a "right" of the display by 2 DVI splitters, the pc is then setup to create 1 big display through both outputs. This allows content such as videos which use Directshow to be displayed on multiple displays, rather than fail as it would in any other configuration. This display is then connected to the internet through a Linksys WRT543G router which allows the display to connect to the content server. This allows for the display to be updated remotely and virtually instantly. The display turns off when the terminal is closed to preserve equipment life and conserve power.

adxba maintains this and other 4x2 displays at Manchester Airport, and our support team visits the display on a weekly basis to ensure it is operating corrently and to prevent dust from causing operating issues.
